A road named after So Ji-sub set for construction
A new road named after actor So Ji-sub will be built in Korea’s eastern region of Gangwon Province, announced his promoter 3HW com on Friday.
3HW explained in a press release that a new road will be constructed at Yanggu County of Gangwon Province starting this month, inspired by So’s travel photo essay “So Ji-sub’s Road,” published last year, thus making him the first Korean actor who will have his name marked on the Korean map.
So’s photo essay which was released at the end of August last year, carries his accounts on his trip to various scenic sites in the Gangwon Province last summer including the demilitarized zone (DMZ) where nature is particularly well preserved.
The upcoming road, which will be 51 kilometers long, will be divided into courses either for strolling, hiking or mountaineering and cover several well known tourism spots such as Dutayeon trail, Paroho Lake, coastal basin Punch Bowl, the fourth underground tunnel and most importantly, Gachilbong Peak which has never been opened to the public before despite its scenic view due to its proximity with North Korea, being only 700 meters away from the communist regime.
“We have no intention of harming the environment but to preserve it as best as we can while creating a road that allows one to fully enjoy the wonderful sights of nature that one can never experience in the city,” an official at Yanggu County was quoted as saying in the statement. “We have been receiving calls about Dutayeon and DMZ since book has been published…… and believe this would contribute greatly to boosting tourism in the region.”
So invited some 300 fans today to join him on a four km-walking event on a part of the road that has been partially revealed as a special event.
So, 33, is one of the most popular actors in Korea and has appeared in numerous TV dramas and movies since his debut in 1996. He became a household name in Korea and Asia with his roles in 2004 hit series "Something Happened in Bali" and "I'm Sorry, I Love You."
He is currently filming the movie "Only You," helmed by critically acclaimed director Song Il-gon, in which he plays a former boxer named Chul-min that falls in love with a girl who gradually loses her eyesight, to be played by actress Han Hyo-joo.
He has also been cast in another film tentatively titled “Employee” about a hitman that decides to quit his job after falling in love, set to crank in during the latter half of this year.
