[Article] BIFF Opening Film "Only You" Sells Out in Seven Seconds

You can boil an egg in a few minutes, coffee in even less, but selling out a 2,000 seat outdoor movie theater in seven seconds is quite impressive. Not to worry, this anticipated film will play several times over the course of the upcoming Busan International Film Festival, which kicks off October 6th.

BUSAN, South Korea -- The opening film for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), Only You, starring So Ji-sub and Han Hyo-joo sold out in seven seconds after sales opened online Monday at 5pm. Tickets for the outdoor screening sold out in seven while the indoor screening of Only You* at CineMountain sold out in 20 seconds. The film is described as a fatal love story centered on an ex-boxer and a telemarketer.

This beats last year’s record set by Under the Hawthorn Tree, a film directed by Chinese director Zhang Yimou, which sold all of its 2,000 tickets in eighteen seconds.

This years closing film, Chronicles of my Mother,” directed by Japanese director/actor Masato Harada, sold out 1,500 tickets in 1 minute 23 seconds. You may remember Harada as the actor in The Last Samurai who hired Tom Cruise to off what was left of the Samarai in turn of the century Japan.
Online ticket sales for the remaining 305 films featured at this years film festival, including 89 international premieres, will be available online starting Sept. 28th, while mobile-web reservations start Sept 29th.

*Note: The English title of the movie Only You, "오직 그대만" is called “Always” in the BIFF listing, though more commonly known in English media reports as “Only You,” which is a literal translation of the Korean title.

Film info from BIFF site:
Only You (오직 그대만) "Always"
A fatal love story centered on ex-boxer Chul-min (So Ji-sub) and telemarketer Jung-hwa(Han Hyo-joo).He has closed his heart to the world and she remains spirited despite slowly losing her vision. Eliminating the so-called silent style of long shots and long takes and appealing to soul and spirit, this could be deemed Song Il-gon’s declaration of transformation from an auteur director to a popular director.
Those who were mesmerized by Song’s [Flower Island] and [Magician] may be somewhat disappointed. As suggested by the trite title, the movie is full of old cliches. But what makes it extraordinary despite its cliches is the director’s characteristic unconventional directing style and dramatic twists in detail that reveals moderation and omission.
[Always] takes small steps towards the climax without excessive use of words and action. Chul-min’s climactic scene trumps the explosiveness of [Rough Cut]. The director also adds class to the film through the remarkable visuals and sound design, sensuous but not superficial. As a result, this film is distinct from overwhelmingly common melodramas and successfully emerges as an ‘uncommon common’ drama. So Ji-sub and Han Hyo-joo are perfect in their roles. The commercial expression as ‘So-joo couple’ is no exaggeration. (JEON Chanil)
SONG Il-gon

Song Il-gon was born in Seoul and studied cinema at the National Academy of Film in Lodz, Poland. He shot to prominence on the strength of the Cannes Jury Prize winning short film The Picnic (1998). His filmography includes New Currents-winner [Flower Island] (2001), [Spider Forest] (2004), [Feathers in the Wind] (2004), [The Magicians] (2005), and [Dance of Time] (2010).

[Video] So Ji Sub and HHJ on SBS 'Night of TV Entertainment"

SJS and HHJ were on SBS 'Night of TV Entertainment"

Credit : Nivras16@YT

dear Sarvin posted the following recap from what was said in the video above on Soompi ^^ thanks so much dear ^^

Actors So Ji Sup and Han Hyo Joo stopped by a popular SBS entertainment program on September 21st to talk about their new movie, ‘Only You‘.

During the interview, So Ji Sub remarked, “Hyo Joo has never once called me ‘oppa’. She has no aegyo!” Han Hyo Joo quickly came to her own defense with, “I do too! Its just you’re so much older than I am!”
[in korea young girls showed very pretty & charming gestures to look very attractive to other people that is called "aegyo".]

Jo Young Kyu chimed in at this point and said, “My wife is 11 years younger than me, but she talks back to me,” which caused everyone in the studio to laugh.

[So- Ju couple means So(Jisub)-(HanHyo)Ju. After filming Always, many people call them like this.]

Mr. Cho miscalled So-Ju couple as So-Ju club, So, they laughed. Also, Mr. Cho asked several questions to SJS and HHJ to know if they could be going well in real life not only in the movie. The first question is if SJS finds someone to suit his or her fansy, he asked her to give her phone number? SJS answered he couldn't ask. And HHJ said usually women didn't do that.

Mr. Cho asked HHJ to call SJS Oppa. As HHJ are trying to call SJS Oppa, SJS abruptly told HHJ "don't do that." Everybody laughed aloud.

SJS told HHJ is like older person for her age. SJS expected HHJ has much aegyo for her age but she looks grown-up for her age. But SJS told it was so good.

Mr. Cho asked if SJS and HHJ took same CF and what kind of CF they wanted. HHJ wanted Coffee CF but SJS told I am Coffee CF model already(Twosomeplace). So, HHJ told how about 소주(Korean distilled liquor) because the sound is so similar to SO-JU.

Towards the end of the interview, So Ji Sub explained that he “doesn’t like action movies.” He continued, “They’re tiring and I would like act in a romantic comedy. Please send in your ideas!”
Han Hyo Joo made a point to reiterate her case: “I really do have aegyo…”

[Article - September 2011] Song Il Gon: 'So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo Are Excellent Actors'

[Article - September 2011] Song Il Gon: 'So Ji Seob and Han Hyo Joo Are Excellent Actors'

At the production presentation of the movie "You Only," the director Song Il Gon said, "I could not have begun and finished this movie without So Ji Seob and Han Hyo Joo. Their acting was perfect while filming this movie."
"You Only" has attracted many people's attention with its cast members -- star actors So Ji Seob and Han Hyo Joo -- and its production presentation was held at Apgujeong CGV on September 20. Song Il Gon, who wrote the script and directed the movie, highly praised the two male and female protagonists the whole time during the production presentation. He said about actor So Ji Seob, "He is a perfectionist. He devoted too much to this movie. Even though he injured his wrist, he never showed that he was suffering from pain and he personally appeared in many action scenes without utilizing an understudy. He always perfectly prepared for his acting before filming." He also said about actress Han Hyo Joo, "She plays a blind woman in the movie. Her acting must have been very difficult while playing a blind character, but she showed high concentration while playing her role and she never expressed her difficulties on the film set. She is an incredible actress even though she is still very young."

You Only" will tell the love story between a man who was once a boxer with a gloomy past and now works at a parking lot, and a woman who lost her parents due to an accident and gradually loses her eyesight. They meet coincidentally and passionately fall in love at first sight. So Ji Seob said, "It has been such a long time since I appeared in a melodrama, but I felt difficulties when I had to portray the emotion of the character because the story was so sad. Next time, I want to appear in a romantic comedy movie." He smiled and continued, "As I had to play a boxer in the movie, I had practiced boxing very much even before we began filming, but I got injured on my wrist before filming started and I suffered from pain while filming."

Han Hyo Joo said, "The director filmed this movie with beautiful angles so I realized that I want to continuously appear in other melodramas. I was very happy while filming because the story was all about love. But it took time for me to adjust to playing a blind character in the drama because I had to pretend that I could see nothing. I tried everything that could be helpful in my acting. I went to a school for the blind and studied braille. I also met my mentor, who was also blind, at the school, and I would like to express my appreciation for my mentor who helped me very much."
A recently released preview revealed that they filmed a bedroom scene, and the scene has become a hot topic of conversation. Asked about the scene, Han Hyo Joo became embarrassed and said, "So Ji Seob led me very well when we filmed the scene," and So Ji Seob said with a smile, "It was not that difficult because I had many experiences."

Song Il Gon first tried to produce a commercial movie with "You Only." He had garnered the 1999 Special Jury Prize in the category of short movies at the Cannes Film Festival with his movie entitled "Vacation," and he had also garnered the Young Critics' Award at the Berlin Film Festival with another of his movies entitled "Flower Island." In this manner, his artistry has been confirmed by the world. "You Only" is a melodrama movie, but it has been selected as the opening movie of the 2011 Busan International Film Festival because Song's excellent directing ability has been acknowledged. Song Il Gon said, "Personally I am very honored that my movie has been selected as the opening movie of this highly regarded film festival. In particular, I am extremely happy that my movie will be the first movie to be screened at the 'Busan Cinema Center' which will open this year." He explained the movie by saying, "I have always wanted to tell a story of a young couple living in the city. I mean that I wanted to produce a movie about true love, where a couple devotes all of themselves for each other set against the backdrop of a small corner of Seoul in 2011."

[Article] So Ji-sub says was difficult to be romantic for new movie

[Article] So Ji-sub says was difficult to be romantic for new movie

One might presume that playing a romantic person would be easy when most of the world already sees you as one but Korean actor So Ji-sub says he found it difficult to take on such role for his new movie "Always."

So made the remark to reporters on Tuesday while talking about his character Chang Chul-min at a press conference for the upcoming movie.

"It was nice being in a romantic movie although I had a hard time getting a grasp on the right emotions to portray because recently, I'd only done productions in the action genre," So explained, while jokingly added he would like to take on a romantic comedy next.

So, who made his debut as a model in 1994, became a heartthrob throughout with the back-to-back success of romantic dramas "Something Happened in Bali" and "I'm Sorry, I Love You" in 2004 yet turned mainly to actions films and dramas starting 2008.

So added, "I had a hard time at first because I had a lot of lingering emotions left from portraying my character but I've been able to break away from Chul-min since working on my next movie."

His co-star Han Hyo-joo said that she went on a family trip to try to shake off her character Ha Jung-ah which so far, she has failed to do so. "I'm on a break so I'm still having a hard time emotionally...... I choked up a few times while watching the preview just now as well."

In “Always,” Chang Chul-min is an ex-boxer with a rough past that delivers water during the day and works as a parking lot attendee at night and he falls in love with Ha Jung-ah who gradually loses her eyesight.

"Always," helmed by famed Korean director Song Il-gon, will open the 16th annual Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) on October 6 and hit local theaters the same month.
